Barfi! (2012) review - Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, Ileana D'Cruz

Anurag Basu has given Bollywood some priceless movies in the past. One of them was the epic fail love story of Hritik and Barbara Mori, Kites. The movie made sure that Barbara was sent back to Mexico where she is probably flying kites at the moment.

In the year 2000, Anurag Basu also tortured the Indian audiences by directing the two most popular TV sagas of that time, Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki and Kyonki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. Can you believe this is the guy who directed Murder?

Barfi! is his way of repenting for the past sins and I must say I totally forgive him.

Barfi! is the story of a deaf and dumb Nepali, Murphy(Ranbir Kapoor). Murphy is a risk taker and his happy go lucky nature makes him the talk of his town. Ranbir is called Barfi in the movie because when he tries to say his name it sounds somewhere between Murphy and Barfi. It absolutely makes sense to think that his name is Barfi. Why would anyone not name their kid after a sweet. That’s how Murphy’s village people roll  \m/

Shruti(Ileana) shifts to Murphy’s town and meets Murphy, who successfully woos her the true bollywood way, two songs and she is all his. The story takes a turn when Shruti leaves the town with her fiance and Murphy is left alone, heart broken.

Priyaka Chopra plays an autistic girl. Her character probably saw Teri Meri Kahani or heard her new single ‘In My City’ which turned her so batshitcrazy in the movie. Eitherway, I found her irritating and I like the scenes with Ileana more.

Priyanka’s character stretched the movie for no reason and made an otherwise interesting movie, boring in the second half.
Ileana’s friend Sumona’s character is a mystery. Noone seems to give a fuck when she mysteriously disappears .Probabaly they were busy thinking why she was there in the first place.
Ileana’s creepy mother is a mystery too. She stalks her ex- lover, an ugly out of shape woodcutter, and on one occasion she takes Ileana on the stalking spree too
(Interestingly, the mother played Draupadi in B.R.Chopra’s Mahabharat).

I have a few recommendations for the movie. They should have killed Priyanka’s character as soon as she was introduced. Could have been an accident , murder or vampire/zombie attack. Anything that ends her role as quickly as it starts.

Also, Ileana and Ranbir’s love story should have dominated the movie. Their chemistry made the movie more interesting.

All said and done, the movie is undoubtedly GOOD. The music and visuals leave you with a more haunting feeling than the entire Raaz series. I won’t be surprised if it goes on to become a timeless classic  or the reason for priyanka’s exit from bollywood. I prefer the latter

Raaz 3 (2012) review - Emraan Hashmi, Bipasha Basu, Esha Gupta

The first Raaz movie was an interesting amalgamation of sex and horror. Then came the second installment, Raaz-TMC (Too Much Crap). The only scary scenes of this movie were when Adhyayan Suman and Kangana Ranaut tried to act. The scariest scene in the movie was when Kangana tried to say something in English. I still get nightmares.

Raaz 3 is the third installment of the Raaz series and it hits the theaters today.
It is totally understandable if you have taken an unbreakable vow to never watch any of the Raaz movies again, after watching Raaz-TMC.
But are you sure you wanna miss the chance of watching a decently erotic movie in 3D?

If you have seen the promos, you already know that Raaz 3 is the story of black magic, dusky Esha and duskier Bipasha. Revealing anything more will be spoilers.
With two hot actresses in the movie, you need a horny actor to make the horny audiences happy. Emraan Hashmi comes to rescue here. He not only kisses them passionately, he also ACTS in the movie.

It is no news that Esha Gupta was a replacement to Jacqueline Fernandez. Jacqueline was suppose to do some sort of cameo in the movie but unfortunately I never saw Jacqueline, unless she was playing the bandage covered ghost.

Raaz 3 succeeds in scaring you. What works in its favor is that the movie is in 3D and unlike other you-call-this-3D movies, this one actually has some good 3D effects to boast about.
Also, the black magic is scary because there are ghosts/spirits involved. This is not one of those black magic movies where the cameraman tries to scare you, instead of actors and plot(yes I mean the Phoonk series).

Although I must admit that a ghost named Tara Dutt can totally turn a horror movie into comedy. I witnessed it first hand when the audiences couldn't stop laughing every time Tara Dutt came on screen. The laughter was at its peak when Tara Dutt goes topless.

Apart from the scary scenes, there is a lot of sex in the movie. You get to watch sex in 3D! Even the ghost has sex at one point of time. Nobody stays horny when it comes to Bhatt movies. The Bhatt camp should be declared as the brand ambassador of sex. Can we partially blame them for the nation's population increase?

My only complain with the movie is that the ghost could have looked scarier. He looks like a retard combination of an egyptian mummy and wooden furniture. In some scenes, Esha Gupta without makeup looks scarier than the ghost.

On a serious note, my final verdict is that Raaz 3 is much better than Raaz-TMC and is at par with Raaz if not better than it. If you plan to watch it then I would recommend to watch it in 3D to enhance the fun
